MAGNIFY THE LORD
See Up Close

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

For only one dollar, I figured I could find some use for the magnifying glass that was on sale. When I got home, I took it out of my bag and casually laid it down on my desk while I put away other purchases.

Much later, thinking to rest a while, I sat at my desk and glanced briefly at the magnifying glass where I had left it. It sat on a page of the bible I had been studying earlier. Under its magnification stood out the words I had highlighted in yellow, "Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together." (Psalm 34:3) The magnifying glass made clear what I was to magnify.

To magnify the Lord might just bring Him closer to each of us. And the closer He is, the more He touches and shows Himself to us.

There's only one requirement, the one word that stands out in the following scripture verses: "SEEK".

"Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near." (Isaiah 55:6)

"But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul." (Deuteronomy 4:29)

"Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God." (2 Chronicles 19:3)

"...Seek Me and live..., Seek the LORD and live...." "Seek good and not evil, that you may live." (Amos 5:4, 6, 14)

"When You said, 'Seek My face,' My heart said to You, 'Your face LORD, I will seek.'" (Psalm 27:8)

Without eyesight to physically see, Blind Bartimaeus called out to Jesus with the eyes of faith, "And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!'" (Mark 10:47)

I would like to continue to seek God not with physical eyes, but with a pure heart and the desire from the Holy Spirit in me to lead me, My magnifying glass serves as a reminder to seek Him with my heart at all times and magnify His name!

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." (Matthew 5:8)

I like the way The Message bible expresses 1 Corinthians 13:12. "We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!"

"...we do not look at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen.
For the things which are seen are temporary,
but the things which are not seen are eternal."

(2 Corinthians 4:18)

ETERNAL HOPE
Seek the Lord while He may still be found.
Seek Him alone and not the pleasures of the world.
For the things of earth will not last forever.
But the things of God are eternal in the heavens,
forever with Him!
