GUESS WHO'S COMING FOR DINNER
Be A Zealous Host

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him,
and We will come to him and make Our home with him."

(John 14:23)

Careful, now. If the following words to an old song sound familiar to you, you've already dated yourself!

"Oh, won't you…ac-cent-tchu-ate the positive, eliminate the negative; latch on…to the affirmative. Don't mess with Mister In-Between." (© Words by Johnny Mercer, Music by Harold Arlen)
I never would have thought this popular song of the '40's, could be related to bible teachings. "Mister In-Between"? Remember the church of the Laodiceans?

"And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth.'" (Revelation 3:14-16)

Those are strong words. As a matter of fact, the word "spew" can also be translated "spit out forcefully or vomit"! Being lukewarm is so utterly unacceptable to Jesus, He then proceeds to give us the antidote to overcome what today we would call "Mister In-between, indifferent, halfhearted, without zeal".

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne." (Revelation 3:20, 21)

"Latch-on", fasten ourselves securely to Jesus, the One who is knocking at the door of our hearts. He waits for us to invite Him in for dinner! Open the door, feast and be filled to the fullest!
