Shaking Heaven and Earth

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

"For thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the LORD of hosts." (Haggai 2:6, 7)

This New Year brought a letter from Bill and Delores Winder, which I am sharing. This petite but powerful woman of God addressed partners of their ministry, Fellowship Foundation, Inc., as follows:

    "As we look ahead to a new year, we must keep our eyes on Him...as all is being shaken that can be shaken. (Read Hebrews 12:25-29) Only our trust in Him will keep us steadfast. As the Lord showed me the whirlwind coming, He said to keep our eyes on Jesus, trust in Him and He will give us the unshakable peace the world can't know. Don't center on circumstances or we will sink.

    These are trying times but with the Lord we will come through. He is still the Creator and holds in His hands all creation. Trying times are upon us; the future would frighten us if our trust were not in Him. I encourage you to walk in His peace and see Him bring us through. Fear not for He is with us. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us He does not give us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Let your thoughts be the thoughts of Jesus - that renewed mind to the mind of Christ. He is faithful."

Her words are scriptural truths. The prophet Joel confirms Delores' message, "The LORD also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the LORD will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel." (Joel 3:16)

Read Chapter 2 of the Prophet Haggai, a short book. After all nations are shaken, they shall yearn for and "...come to the "Desire of All Nations." What is this Desire of All Nations? It's Jesus Christ with His body, the church, filling this latter temple with glory!

Have you said, "Yes!" to Jesus, trusting Him to bring His peace?
