THUMBS UP AGAIN
A Personal Testimony of Trust

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

Straight from the exact center of the Bible comes the verse which ties in the Old Testament with the New Covenant, the verse we are to accept as truth for everything in our lives,

"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
    (Psalm 118:8)

The Lord keeps reminding me time and time again, that we are to trust Him in all things. A quick Thesaurus reading describes "trust" with more words: certainty, reliable, dependable, sure, trustworthy, to name a few.

The Holy Spirit's presence and anointing remind us to face our turmoil, using and accepting God's Words:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
    (Proverbs 3:5,6)

I've had to take this command of "trust" into my heart over and over again! Just at the right time would come His encouraging words in the form of messages to me. The prayers of fellow believers for me included the right God-anointed physician to remove an eight pound benign tumor that presssed up against my right lung. During weeks of recovery I was able to reflect on the Lord and write the Contemplation Page, "Trusting in The Lord."

"Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. "Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass."
    (Psalm 37:4,5)

Were it not for recognizing God's loving presence and healing touch with dedicated doctors, I doubt I could have survived two more surgeries. Then, four years later came a totally unexpected attack of Meningitis. The miraculous healing attests to God's faithfulness and affirmed my thankfulness to the Lord through it all. "Lessons From the Birds" from my archive of prevous Contemplation Pages, expresses how I was able to continue a "thumbs up" attitude through yet another adversity.

"But You are holy, who inhabit the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them.
    (Psalm 22:3,4)

The wonder of wonders is that the Lord continues to provide us with His living words, meant to encourage all of us! He is present through dark times and light-filled times. Believe this! For more about trusting the Lord, read "Trust Me in the Dark," "Perfect Peace," and "Where is Your Peace?."
