GOD DWELLING IN US
The Importance of Thirst

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

"And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God." (Revelation: 21:3)

This scripture comes at the ending of the Bible as it has been set up. My question is, "Do we have to wait until physical death for God to dwell with and in us?" If Scripture tells us Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8), can we not believe the promises of forever, can also apply to the same words spoken yesterday?:

"And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them." (Exodus 25:8)

"And He said, 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.' Then he (Moses) said to Him, 'If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.'" (Exodus 33:14-16)

Jesus, in preparing His disciples to receive God, the Holy Spirit, also speaks to us today:

"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever...you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you." (John 14 16, 17) (emphasis mine)

"...If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. (John 14:23)

How then can we be assured of God's presence in us today, as His temple and dwelling place of the promised Helper?

We seek Him, confess, repent and rebuke the sins in our lives, receive Him by faith and surrender all our self desires for His will alone. Finally, we allow Him to infill us, expecting without doubt, for God to manifest Himself to us as He wills.

"And He said to me, 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of life freely to him who thirsts.'" (Revelation 21:6)

All that is required today is that we thirst. He will give us all things and God will be ours, just as we shall be His own. Believe it and receive!
