TWO BY TWO
Partnering Together

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

"Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually." (1 Corinthians 12:27)

Drops had accumulated on the car's windshield after the rain. I sat there in the front seat, waiting for my husband to come out of the store. Some of the drops formed rivulets running down the glass.

On closer inspection, I watched as a good-sized raindrop edged its way to the next drop. Barely touching, the two merged together and began to move down the glass. The weight of the combined drops caught up with other drops and the combination moved more quickly, like a miniature river reaching the end of its journey.

The Lord was showing me my life. My moving and touching another person, even slightly, surely brings us both into contact with others. Partnering together we all can move, guided by the Holy Spirit, to deliver the message God wants us to share.

When Jesus called His apostles to preach the kingdom of God, "He began to send them out two by two..." (Mark 6:7) and "...gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases." (Luke 9:1) Even John the Baptist, when in prison, and hearing about the works of Christ, sent two of his disciples to inquire of Jesus if He was the "Coming One". (Matthew 11:2)

The gathering of raindrops symbolized for me that I cannot do the works of God properly unless I am connected with others. Each person lends support to another, bringing encouragement through the giftings of the Holy Spirit, "...every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love." (Ephesians 4:16)

MY BODY THE CHURCH

I speak into your heart
those things reserved for you alone.
You are unique, one of a kind.
But I did not create you to be alone, by yourself.
You need the closeness of others to surround you
with the love I've given to them as well.
Together, you are meant to be My body,
working in love in one accord.
Together you are meant to show others
My love, care and concerns
so they, too, might come to Me
and know Me with their own hearts.
I want all My sheep gathered together,
giving Me all the glory.
For without Me you can do nothing.
With Me all things are possible!
