I kept my eyes tightly closed so I couldn’t see how much of the "tunnel" closed in on me. Nevertheless, my mind began to wander into an area of panic, knowing I could not escape for the next 30 minutes or so.

The Lord in His graciousness brought to remembrance the psalmist’s words I had recently contemplated. Where, indeed, is that "secret place"? The words paint the picture of being protected "under the shadow of the Almighty". I gathered my thoughts, determined that I would be like the baby bird who seeks that cozy refuge under the parent eagle’s wings. Soon, I began to know God’s comfort and presence and the promise of "healing in His wings." (Malachi 4:2)Time passed slowly, the longest half hour I've known but it also was a chance to discover God's secret place, for myself.

The doctor called later with the good news that all was clear! Praise be to the Lord for hiding me under the shadow of His wings!

"How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings." (Psalm 36:7)

"...In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me..." (Psalm 27:5)

"...Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me." (Psalm 17:8, 9)

"...You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavillion from the strife of tongues." (Psalm 31:20)
