WHAT SEASON THIS?
The Truth of Christmas

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

"Philip said to Him, 'Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.' Jesus said to him...He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'show us the Father'?" (John 14:8, 9)

Jesus came to show us of the Father. He knew we could not see God without a physical presence, not only to point the way, but also to die for all mankind.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God." (John 1:1, 2)

For He, the Logos, Jesus Christ was with His Father in the beginning, creating the world. No baby then, but fully grown. He humbled Himself with physical birth, made incarnate, Holy Spirit with a human mother. A special woman this, righteous and obedient without questioning.

"And the angel said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:35) "Then Mary said, 'Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.'..." (Luke 1:38)

Contrary to man, born of worldly flesh and then "born-again" of the Spirit from above, (John 3:6) Jesus came as spirit, from seed of the Holy Spirit and made flesh to live as man, yet showing the light of life!

"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." (John 1:4, 5).

Jesus, the "seasoning" which adds spice to each life! Let Him spice up our holy days! Reflect Jesus. Show His light with the joy He gives. No wonder we love to light candles, plug in strings of lights, and bake with cinnamon, ginger, cloves and allspice!

It's the season to smell and taste all the seasonings. Be like the child who opens his eyes wide with delight to see flickering candles, colorful lights, listening for sleigh bells to ring (snow or no-snow!) And the presents!

As for you, mothers and fathers, hear what the Spirit is saying to you:

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" (Luke 11:13)

Connect with the Holy Spirit. Ask for Him! He will change your life forever!
