GOD'S CARE-WORDS
Truth in Advertising

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

Advertising writers can sometimes say amazing things to Christians. For instance, on one product I recently read words like these: "All Day Power", "Mega Hold", and "Vital Care." Although advertising a product, what I saw evidenced in those words was God's care, words describing what the Lord is eager to show us!

"All Day Power" is what Jesus came to give to us. We know we can do nothing by our own selves, but must rely on Him for His power in everyday living. The Apostle Paul was unable to handle everything on his own, so Jesus had to tell Paul: "My grace is sufficient for you for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Paul adds: "Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

"Mega-Hold" gently applies the Lord Jesus' caring hold on all who need His daily presence. His love comes with a guarantee never to let you go! "And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed." (Deuteronomy 31:8)

There is nothing more "mega" (big) than God. We are told we, too, must tenaciously, tirelessly and persistently call and hold onto the One who came to save and to heal. "...praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints..." (Ephesians 6:17, 18)

"Vital Care," may have been presented as advertising, but the term brings to mind the words of the Apostle Peter to wives: "Do not let your beauty be that outward adorning of arranging the hair, of wearing gold, or of putting on fine apparel; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:3, 4)

Rather than emphasizing outside appearances, "Vital Care" tells me that because my hidden inside is so precious to God, I need to seek to revitalize that gentle and quiet spirit that will be noticed by others in order to bring about changes to lives.

God's words are not hidden. Even advertising on product labels can deliver the truth of God's words of care for us. Search and discover!
